Lesson plan
Lead-in Discussion
Students answer three personal questions about diets and share which foods they eat most often.
Diets: Which Have You Heard Of?
Students look at a list of popular diet names (Keto, Paleo, Mediterranean, Vegan, etc.) and discuss which ones they recognise.
Brainstorm
Students list reasons why people follow diets.
Vocabulary: Whole Food vs Processed Food
Students read the definitions and find examples of whole and processed foods in the pictures provided.
Macronutrients
Students look at protein, carbs, and fat, and give 2-3 examples of foods in each group.
Video: Diets by CasiCreativo English
Students watch a 4:15 video and take notes on which foods are invited to each diet "club".
Comprehension Questions
Students answer four questions about the video, covering the Keto, Detox, Bread, and Pasta segments.
Vocabulary
Students match ten target words (calories, ketosis, vitamin deficiency, ancestors, digestion, fasting, balanced, short-term, to stabilize, to exclude) to their definitions.
Reading: Keto, Paleo, and Detox Diets
Students read three short texts explaining how each diet works, its benefits, and its drawbacks, using the target vocabulary in context.
Think: Guess the Diet
Students look at sets of food emojis and decide whether each represents the Keto, Paleo, or Detox diet, then discuss which one they would choose to follow for a month.
Grammar: Modals
Students study modal verbs for necessity, obligation, and advice (need to, must/have to, should/ought to).
Practice
Students rewrite six sentences using the appropriate modal verbs.
Speaking
Students discuss five questions about dieting, mental health, and the phrase "you are what you eat".
Calorie Calculator
Students use an interactive calorie calculator based on age, weight, and activity level, compare it with their usual diet, and discuss the results with a partner.
